Will Medical Aid pay for my treatment?

I run a case practice and as such all sessions must be settled before the feedback session. Some medical aids include psychometric testing in their health plans. Enquire from your medical aid if you can claim back the cost of your psychometric assessment. If you would like to see what your medical is willing to contribute towards the cost of the assessment before booking an appointment – please send the following details for the quotation:

  • Name of Client
  • Client’s Date of Birth
  • Medical Aid
  • Medical Aid Number
  • Main Member’s Full Name

Should a client not have a medical aid or choose not to make use of their medical aid, the session(s) can be paid for in cash or via electronic transfer (EFT). If the fee is settled in cash, proof of payment can be brought to the session or e-mailed on the day that the session takes place. Please enquire about banking details.

Alternatively, you may be able to use your invoice for tax deductions. Your accountant or SARS will be able to advise you.

Please note that payment ultimately remains the responsibility of the person(s) utilising the services. In the case of individuals younger than 18 years of age, the consenting parent(s)/ guardian(s) are responsible for settling any outstanding payments.

What are the Costs?

The assessments range from R1000 to R4000 and are dependent on the reason for referral. For a quotation, please send an email to alison@abassesssments.co.za

Is my information confidential?

Yes. The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) holds ethical issues in the highest regard and the Psychometrist is bound by ethical commitment.  All information shared with the Psychometrist is strictly confidential except in the following situations:

  • In consultation with other health professionals in the best interests of the client.
  • If the client poses a danger to himself/herself or others.
  • If the Psychometrist is impelled under protest to divulge information to a court of law.
Scheduled appointment cancellation?

All cancellations and postponements of appointments are to be done 24 hours prior to the time of your scheduled appointment. In the event of not doing so, you will be responsible for payment of a 51-60 minute consultation with no exception (this includes traffic, transport problems, illness, hospital admissions and stays), as the allotted assessment time cannot be transferred to another client.

What happens if the session or assessment runs over time?

For every additional hour taken after the schedule time will be charged for the full hour or part thereof.

What if I am late for an appointment?

If you are late for the consultation, you will still be billed for the full hour as the allocated time cannot be transferred to another client.

Scope of Practice

A psychometrist is permitted to use certain psychological tests (i.e., select, administer, score, interpret, and report on) and bill clients for this service, provided that appropriate training has been obtained and the necessary practical competencies have been developed related to the tests used.

Psychometrists are not permitted to use:

  • Certain personality measures (e.g., TAT, CAT, Rorschach);
  • Specialist neuropsychological measures;
  • Measures that are used for the diagnosis of psychopathology (e.g., MMPI-2).

A psychometrist will not be permitted to undertake forensic assessments or any other form of specialist assessment (e.g., neuropsychological), as these forms of assessment require highly specialised and advanced knowledge and competencies which only psychologists can provide.
